Increasingly common in diets and even cosmetics, Coconut Oil is something many are looking into more deeply to see how it can benefit them too.

Given the feedback we’ve received, it’s certainly safe to say that Coconut Oil and other Coconut related products such as Coconut Water have really proven popular here at Discount Supplements over the last few years – we’d certainly recommend checking them out!

What’s in Coconut Oil?

Coconut Oil is versatile and you can use it multiple times per week, consuming it as a spread, in your coffee, frying with it, baking with it and even having it in smoothies all because of the benefits from this oil or just because it’s a good alternative with a different taste to most oil products… but what’s in it?
Well, Coconut Oil is naturally high in MCTs or ‘medium chain triglycerides’ (around 65% in fact). Consuming Coconut Oil provide an intake of fatty acids which according to studies may have positive effects on fat loss and various other functions such as temporarily increasing the metabolic rate.

More About MCTs

Fats are made from chains of connected hydrogen and carbon atoms, certain fats are short chain fatty acids – these have fewer than 6 carbons. Medium chain fatty acids have 6-12 carbons and long chain fatty acids have 13-21 carbons (such as Omega 3s for example).

MCTs are seen as an easily digestible fuel source, which is ideal for those wanting high amounts of energy or just a concentrated amount of energy with zero carbs.

They are easy to digest because the chains don’t take much energy to break apart, once absorbed they go straight to the liver where they are thought to positively affect the metabolism which is why many claim that MCTs are burned by the body for fuel rather than being stored as fat.

Additionally, MCTs are thought to be anti-inflammatory and have positive effects on gut health.

Not only does Coconut Oil have a light yet pleasant taste when used to cook, bake, fry or have in smoothies but can even be used topically on the skin due to its natural moisturising effects, whilst at the same time being anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.
