Maintaining good Joint Health is extremely important for all of us, whether that’s those of us who invest in nutritional supplements and live a healthy lifestyle or not.

Our joints help us to move freely and have a high quality of life, therefore it makes sense that we take steps to keep our joints ‘in good working order’.

There are certain nutritional supplements which may be of interest, including:

– Chondroitin
– Glucosamine
– MSM
– Omega 3
– Calcium
– Collagen
– Vitamin C
– Calcium
– Rosehip

These above ingredients come in a variety of different forms, some you will find on their own in a pure form and there are also products which contain a blend of these various ingredients.

In order to maintain Joint Health, there are various behaviours that we can do in addition to supplementation…

What We Eat

We are what we eat, taking in nutrient dense foods and drinking enough water are good examples of healthy habits that help keep our body healthy. By having a healthy nutritional strategy, we give our body what it needs to stay fit and strong.

Exercise

Exercising Regularly helps to keep our joints both strong and healthy, like muscles they need to be used in order for them to be in good health. When it comes to specific exercises, some may not be suitable for some of us and if an exercise causes issues, opting for exercises that are better suited which don’t cause joint pain or discomfort will be preferable.

When we exercise we get the joints moving, sitting in the same position for long periods of time can promote joint stiffness e.g. being at a computer for long periods – which should be minimised, taking a break and walking around or stretching frequently can help.

Good Posture

Not slouching, not being lopsided and not hunching is important to keep our joints healthy, by having a good posture, this protects our joints – particularly the back and hips. Although many of us know this, we neither correct our posture actively or pay attention to this advice. So consciously working on this until it’s a habit is certainly worth it for our long term health.

When lifting weights, good posture and form mean that excessive stress need not be put on the joints. By using our biggest muscles (and in turn the strongest joints) we avoid overstressing our smaller joints and muscles – which over time can make a big difference. A good example of this is using our powerful leg muscles to lift a box rather than hunching over and using our lower back (as generally pointed out in the workplace).

Maintain a Healthy Weight for Healthy Joints

Having a healthy weight within a certain range is one of the best things we can do for our joints. Experts explain that joints, particularly the knees, back and hips support a lot of our bodyweight and at times they can support most of it in certain positions if we are overweight this can cause excessive stress on those joints and others.
