- Tastes Awful Mixes Well
Robin, Edinburgh 03/11/2011
I bought this as was wanting a low carb alternative to whey. There are mixed reviews about it but thought I would take my chances. First off, it mixes fine, I use a optimum nutrition shaker, there are always a few lumpy bits but not the end of the world. As for taste though I'm afraid it is awful!! I chose vanilla, it's like sawdust with a terrible aftertaste. In terms of a supplement, it seems good, I'm always full after it and I would say the gains are decent but the flavour is too much. I'm going back to whey!!

Looked good for the price and the other reviews looked good so i though i'd try it. It's horrid with water as said in the others, i advise taking with soya milk or something. I'm not actually lactose intolerant or anything but this work great with normal milk :) I didn't have a shaker when i got this and it ended up proper lumpy and disgusting , my mate chucked up. Haha, but anyway it's a good buy rapid delivery.
- Decent But Flatulance...
Scott, UK 28/07/2011
Decent product and tastes ok when mixed properly but it makes me fart like mad, not to mention poo twice before lunch.
If you can put up with this then I've noticed some nice gains, no fat gain attributed to it (the beer does that) and it goes down easy enough.
I have a milk allergy (not lactose intolerance, very different) so have to take with soya milk (tastes awful with water).
My advice, get a good shaker because the DS one supplied left my shakes lumpy and tasting like powder.

Soya protein provides a healthy way to get non-animal protein into your diet. It’s great tasting, natural and can provide many healthy effects on the body. It is ideal for high protein/low carb diets! Its valuable constituents include saponins, phytosterols, and isoflavones. This is one of the best things about soy protein! Saponins support healthy immune system function and combine with cholesterol to reduce it's absorption into the body through the small intestine. Phytosterols have also been shown to help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.
Soya Benefits Soy protein products can be good substitutes for animal products because, unlike some other beans, soy offers a "complete" protein profile. Soybeans contain all the amino acids essential to human nutrition, which must be supplied in the diet because they cannot be synthesized by the human body. Soy protein products can replace animal-based foods--which also have complete proteins but tend to contain more fat, especially saturated fat--without requiring major adjustments elsewhere in the diet.
Soya protein is probably one of the most important aspects of a vegetarian’s diet - it's the closest vegetable protein that resembles meat proteins. This doesn't mean soy protein is only used by vegetarians. Many people make an effort to include soy products in their diet, and many people use soy protein supplements. Many people prefer to supplement soy protein in their diet, you can, by all means, supplement your training with soy protein as well. The best thing is probably to mix your soya protein powder with some type of whey protein supplement. This way, you get the benefit of all types of the proteins and their amino acid make up.
Scientists in the Nutrition Division of Miami Research Associates compared four different protein powders (Soya Protein concentrate, soya protein isolate, a soya/whey blend and whey protein isolate) for their ability to increase muscle mass and affect testosterone and oestrogen. They fed 41 bodybuilders one of the listed protein shakes twice a day for 12 weeks. At the end of the period, they discovered that all of the protein supplements increased muscle mass just as well as whey protein did. In addition they found no difference in effects on testosterone or Oestrogen levels.
For best results, go with a mixed protein such as soya plus whey to get the benefits of both high quality proteins. If you can't find a pre-mixed product, purchase one container of soya and one container of whey and mix them evenly.
