Apparently a lone football was kicked out from the British trenches and into ‘no man’s land’ in Ypres, Belgium, on Christmas day. The message was clear to the Germans, let’s arrange a cease fire, stop the killing, and have a good ol’ game of football! In memory of that faithful day 14 men from the British army, and 14 from the German army gathered to play 90mins of good spirited football… which the British army won 1-0! Heck, about time we beat the Germans at football!!
This was just one event of thousands that have been held across the UK to remember the Christmas truce football match from 1914 as part of Football Remembers Week. The Premier League is marking this momentous occasion at fixtures involving every team in the Premiership. It truly is great to see.
