A Kkishkiyya recipe that was found in a 10th century Ibn Sayyar al-Warraq cookbook (this confused me too) comprising chickpea, meat stew and something called kashk, a fermented yoghurt, milk and whey ingredient was thought to stave off a hangover. As well as this, the historic book also suggests consuming cabbage before a drinking session, as well as advising people to sip water the next day and not all in one go. It was thought that because this meal was cold, easy to digest and nourishing that it would cool the aches people felt in the head!
