5 Reasons Why Leaving Your Mobile Phone In Your Locker Will Give You A Better Workout

I am a living witness that when you step foot inside the gym you should be 100% focused on what you are there to do, EXERCISE! You are in the gym to improve yourself, get fitter, healthier and ultimately become a better you! I'm going to be honest with you, using your mobile phone while you are in the gym IS NOT going to help you get closer to your goal. If your goal is to lose weight but you spend 5 or 10 minutes total in your session texting, you won't lose weight as effectively as you think. So guess what, here are my 5 reasons why leaving your mobile phone in your locker WILL give you a better workout.

Avoid Distraction

When you are exercising you do not want to be distracted from the outside world and what your plans are for later, you can sort this out when you finish your workout. Focus on the hour you have dedicated to yourself and make it count because every workout is crucial in your development. Text messaging, tweeting, facebooking can all wait until you have finished your workout and it really doesn't need to be done during you session. Leave that phone in your locker...

It Can Wait...

Seriously, unless it is life and death emergencies it can wait an hour. Why are you in the gym? Why are you exercising if all you want to do is be on your mobile phone? Have you had an argument with your partner or a good friend? LEAVE the phone in the locker and use your workout to take your mind off it all. Did you know that a good therapy when something like that happens is to focus on something else to help clear your mind? It is true and you are more likely to make sense of the situation just by switching off and working out. Another reason to leave your phone in the changing rooms...

Avoid The Stigma...

Nobody wants to be that guy when the gym is packed and you are sitting on a bench texting instead of working out. Guys are waiting to use that very bench you are sitting on but you take an extra few minutes just to organise what you are doing at the weekend. Believe me, it isn't cool and you will not get the respect you might deserve while you are in the gym. Leave it in the locker....

Be More Focused

Guess what, we revert back to point number one and without distraction you will become more focused. Without your phone you will solely focus on what you are there to do. Why are you there? Are you there to improve or are you there to socialise? Hey, I know the gym can be a fun place, I have been to many and yes it is awesome when you have your buddies in there and you can all have a laugh. Are you there to have a laugh or are you there to put in work? I'm not saying you can't speak to someone, I'm just saying, you need to be FOCUSED so that you can achieve what you have set out to do..... Leave the phone....

Improve Your Workout

Finally, ask something how important it is to you to achieve your goal? Do you really want to lose weight? Do you really want to fit into that summer dress? Do you really want to get bigger muscles? Ask yourself, is spending some time on your mobile phone in the gym going to get you there? Whether you want to hear it or not, the answer will be no and this is because it is a distraction. Believe me on this one, when you step foot inside your gym having read this post I want you to leave your phone and take note of how much better your workout is. 'But Scott, my music is on my phone?' Fine, I have my music on my phone, choose your playlist and stay focused...

REMEMBER, when you workout this is your TIME to make a DIFFERENCE to your BODY! You can't make a significant difference if you are still connected with the outside world. You have to lose yourself in what you are doing in that specific time so that you give yourself every possible chance to CHANGE. Ask yourself, do you seriously want to change? If the answer is yes, then leave your mobile phone in your locker and you will see change. Have a great workout and as always, please comment and share this post :)
