Back To Basics For Your Most Effective Workouts

When I say basics I mean the very basic movements which you can do pretty much where ever you are and will still give you a great workout. Body weight exercises are the ones I am referring to and were the backbone of your fitness routine when you first started no doubt? How many of you remember doing some press ups, squats, ab crunches before going to bed or when you first woke up? I do, I remember being in my room as a teenager doing some press ups while listening to my NOW 40 collection ha, come on now, don't tell me you weren't listening to these tunes too? I want to brush over why it is important not to forget the basic movements that ultimately steer us in the right direction of a healthy body, healthy mind!

What Are The Basic Moves?

The basic moves are anything you can do which is body weight and doesn't require much additional equipment, therefore no matter where you are, you can perform some kind of workout for your body. The likes of press ups, squats, pull ups, dips, lunges, crunches and so on are great, compound working exercises that you can do in your room whilst at home, in your local park, or in your hotel if you are on the go and can't access a gym.

Practise Makes Perfect

If you can't do a press up or a squat or even a crunch it is ok, we all start somewhere but you must practise them to get good at them. It take me ages to master the squat movement, keeping my heels on the floor and perfecting my breathing to prevent looking like a red balloon in the face, true story! Performing these reps over and over again will make you good at them and when you get good at them you can include them into your everyday workouts.

Why Use These Basic Movements?

Why bother performing these exercises? Why not just stick to running or swimming? Well, these exercises are a fundamental aspect of basic training and in order to achieve great results you should be able to do the basic exercises. What's more is that these basic exercises are all resistance based and that means you burn more calories when you perform them. More calories burned means greater fat burn if you do it properly alongside good nutrition and sleep.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert in training, there is always room to implement these exercises into your routine. If you are new to these exercises why not start off by performing some first thing in the morning or when you are in the gym? Here is a breakdown of how you could make them into your own very circuit...

Perform 10 of each for 3-4 rounds and increase the reps when you feel more comfortable... 

Squats - Press ups - Lunges - Pull Ups - Ab crunches - REPEAT 

These exercises are basic moves that we should perform regularly as they are great for us and will help shed fat whilst developing lean muscle mass. Don't forget these basic moves, no matter how fit you are, you should always try to include them into your working week. Have FUN :)
