There is so much information you will see, read and hear that will confuse you into how you can achieve your goals. How many of you struggle to lose weight? A huge misconception for many females to lift weights is that upon doing so you instantly gain muscles like Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is not the case! Let me repeat that, lifting weights will not give you huge muscles like a bodybuilder (unless you want it to that is). Bodybuilders spend years upon years lifting very heavy weights, increasing the amount of calories they eat and living that kind of lifestyle where muscle growth is very important. Muscle growth to their extent isn't what you need or want to do, so there is no longer a need for you to worry.
Lifting weights is essentially going to increase muscle tone and the rate at which your body burns fat. Ideally you want your body to become a fat burning machine and this is what will happen if you start lifting weights. Weight training will also improve your posture, strength and it will help release more endorphin's which in turn makes you feel better.
Protein is a great source of nutrition which is going to aid in losing fat on your body. Protein is the number one source of nutrients for your muscles and it will also help keep you full. Protein comes in many different forms such as meat, dairy, nuts and seeds and in the form of a supplement. Ideally you should be having enough protein to meet your requirements per day and the best way to work this out is 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. So if you weigh 100lbs, you will need 100 grams of protein.
Using A Supplement
Using a whey protein supplement is fast, easy and effective. Ultimately you want to use a supplement when you need to access some protein and not worry about cooking food. Using a whey protein shake after a workout or as a snack are perfect times to replenish protein stores. Whey protein shakes come in different flavours, different sizes and have different benefits on your body. There are wide choices to pick from and my best advise to you is to pick one which is simply made up of protein. Avoid mass gainers as they contain a considerable amount of calories per shake.
