It Costs The UK Economy £47 Billion A Year…And It’s Entirely Preventable!

Yep, it’s obesity again…sorry for the anti- climax. However it shouldn’t be so much of a come down, but more of a kick in the ass for all those who turn a blind eye to the problem. In fact, it’s less of a problem and more of an issue of “crisis proportions” according to a new study.

According to the BBC News Health column, The McKinsey Global Institute estimates the cost of obesity to be around £1.3tn, or 2.8% of annual economic activity - it cost the UK £47bn.

This is about the same as smoking AND armed combat apparently, all as unfortunate and unnecessary as each other. The study even found that obesity cost us more than alcoholism and even climate change!
