Davina’s Sport Relief Is Leaving Her Without An Appetite

This may sound surprising to many of you who have participated in exercise, but for those who have taken part in ultra-endurance events, you’ll probably be able to relate to this? Davina McCall is in the middle of a 500 mile challenge in order to raise money for sport relief, currently on the 90 mile cycling leg from Edale in Derbyshire to Birmingham. However despite the estimated 8000 calorie deficit caused by the intense regime, Davina is not at all hungry and finding eating and drinking rather arduous.

This however comes as no surprise to me, devouring 8000 calories will require a strict regime involving the ingestion of both solid and liquid nutrition at regular intervals over the day. 8000 calories is a lot of food and drink by any standards, especially for a lady who is used to consuming around the 2000-2500kcal a day mark! The difficulty Davina is having is probably due to the reduced blood flow to her stomach ad GI tract as a result of the high mileage she is completing on a day to day basis. When we exercise our blood preferentially shifts to the major organs, muscles, and skin in order to deliver nutrition and disperse heat. This shift of blood means the stomach is deprived of blood and the related hormonal releases that make you feel hungry are dampened down too!

Poor Davina is really going to have to plan her food and drink intake, and do her best to get as much of it down her as possible. Keep up the great work Davina, from all of us here at Discount Supplements!
