Samantha Briggs is an English CrossFit competitor who is labelled ' The Fittest Woman On Earth' . Last year at the CrossFit games she smashed it and now is ready to give it her all to retain the title at this years' games. I have recently started to get more involved with CrossFit and this lady is simply a machine with what she can lift and how she workouts. Let's have a look into Sam's workout schedule, what she does, which supplements she uses and how she manages to stay in awesome shape...
She is 31 years old and trains out of the Black Five club in Manchester with a Fran time of 2:35. She is a fire fighter working 4 shifts in a row followed by 4 days off and tries to motivate the team she works with to lead a healthy lifestyle. Weighing only 60kg she also has some astonishing lifts that would certainly put me to shame, one being a max deadlift of 170kg, strong I know!!
Day To Day
So we know that Sam works half of the year as a Firefighter which is very admirable and inspiring but she still has to put in the work to achieve her fantastic physique. One thing is for sure, it isn't just about lifting heavy weights which makes her the fittest woman on the planet. She makes sure that before any session she is warmed up properly by performing various mobilisation techniques and stretches.
It is important that Sam eats well in order to maintain her conditioning and performance. What she consumes is fuel for her body which will keep her going for longer than other athletes. She speaks of how her daily nutrition is pretty much the same everyday as she knows this is what works best. Everything she eats is natural and tries to stick to the same stuff, however some times along the way she will include a cheat meal. Here is a breakdown of what she eats on a typical day..
Breakfast - Banana, scrambled eggs cooked in coconut oil and peanut butter.
Lunch - Salmon/ Chicken / Turkey with salad and nuts
Dinner - Steak/ Chicken and vegetables
She has 3 meals per day but always makes sure there is a recovery shake after every training session so the muscles are fueled and recover quicker. Post workout is made up of coconut water, whey protein and fish oil tablets to help replenish the damage she has done in one of her workouts.
What Her Coach Says
Her coach Karl Steadman speaks of how resilient Sam is as an athlete and how she simply doesn't back down. Karl puts her through her paces Monday through to Sunday which comprises of gymnastics, lifting, running, swimming and then an active rest day. This whole routine works on her fitness, strength and endurance to keep going especially for major competitions like the CrossFit Games!!
The Next Time You Will See Her
With the start of the CrossFit games not long away, Sam will be seriously ready to retain her title and give another awesome performance in the games. Her training is both physical and mental and she will need to be on top of both to fend off the other athletes who want to take the title from her. To see more of Sam check out the video below where you see more of her lifting and talking more in depth about her lifestyle and what impact CrossFit has on it.
