Losing body fat and getting to your desired weight is no easy task but before going on a diet there are some important things to have ready so that you stay on track. You may have dieted unsuccessfully in the past but want to give it another try because being the weight you are at right now is getting you down and making you feel unhappy. The truth is, trying to lose weight is such a hard goal which is why so many people find it difficult to stick at it. In order to achieve this you have to really want it, be motivated and have an action plan.
The biggest mistake you can make when going on a diet is cutting out food groups such as carbohydrates and then only eating salads which puts your calorie intake for the day into a massive deficit. The term diet is loosely and is often interpreted as eating far less than what you usually would eat, when in fact this should be the opposite. Your diet should ultimately be taking control of what you eat by making sure you cut out the bad stuff which isn't good for you. What types of foods are these? Well....
Cut Out The Crap
Sugary and refined foods are a definite no go when looking at what to eat, simply because they do not offer any value nutritionally to your diet. You should pick whole, health foods which give you slow, sustained release of energy throughout the day, combined with protein and healthy fats to give your body a full spectrum of nutrients. When you choose healthy foods, you don't just look better but you actually begin to FEEL better and when this happens, you will have the right mindset to keep going.
Before You Diet
But before you diet you need to know exactly what you are doing and how many calories your body needs every single day. You can't go on a diet and leave it all to guess work, there has to be a structure in place which ensures you meet your goals. So, the last thing you want to do is cut out all of your calories and not get the correct nutrition for your body. When this happens you are more likely to reach a plateau and gain more weight when you think the diet is a waste of time. Losing weight is having the correct, mental mindset which means you don't break at the first hurdle, because this journey is a long, tough road.
Make sure you know your BMR from the moment you start your journey in losing weight, this is key! Your BMR is your basal metabolic rate which is your daily, baseline calories you must hit every day just to survive. This is calculated by taking your height, age, gender and weight to give you a final number which is your BMR. Once you know this number you can then plan out how many extra calories you need to fuel your day. From this moment you can then think about playing with your calories and losing a few here and there to invoke fat loss without causing damage to your health.
Use this as your baseline when you start your diet and keep your foods healthy and nutritious, you can do it :)
