Don't Fall For The Trickery and Careful Planning Of A Supermarket

DAILY ARTICLE logo

Looking into your cupboards and fridge noticing you are pretty much out of food sparks one thought in your head, it is time to make a supermarket run. Pens to paper as lists are made for what foods and drinks you need to stock up with, mobile phone apps and the latest offer coupons will also be grabbed before leaving the house. How many of you though go with a list to the supermarket or do you just go with what is on offer, or what is the cheapest? Here are some helpful tips to get you around the supermarket without falling into their traps of buying sugary nonsense!!

Strategic Planning..

Have you ever noticed that a supermarket layout is pretty similar across the board and this is done so that you buy more of the things that aren't good for you. When you are walking around have you noticed that offers on crisps, chocolate, fizzy drinks etc are all placed on the end of aisles where you can see them perfectly. As soon as you walk into the supermarket you are graced with different foods on offer that probably aren't on your list but are there to catch you and increase your chances of buying them. Is this strategic planning by the different supermarket chains out there? Are you more likely to buy these foods with them being in such an eye catching place?

Latest Research

New research has found that the sales of fizzy drinks like Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Fanta soared by 52% when placed at the end of aisles. With the recent releases of sugar being as bad as smoking 20 cigarettes a day it may come to the point where the placing on drinks like this are put in a different section of the supermarket to reduce sales. The fact is any type of food or drink where the body can get addicted to it is going to sell very well on the end of an aisle. Merchants also realise that placing products at eye level will get the biggest sales as we like everything in front of us. Products above or below eye level aren't as catching and therefore do not do as well.

What To Do..

So how can you get around this problem when you want to stick to healthy and nutritious foods? Well the easiest way is to write down what you want to buy before going in and STICKING to your list. DID YOU KNOW, most of the healthy foods are placed around the outside of the supermarket which is harder to get to. Vegetables, eggs, fresh meat, water, nuts and seeds are all around the outside and other healthy items you may need will be amongst other not so healthy foods.

Remember we can all get a bit lazy and complacent at times, meaning that if something is right in front of us and there is an offer on the product we usually just go for it.

Stick to your list, stick to the outside of the supermarket and keep everything healthy!! Don't be lured in by the offers on unhealthy foods such as fizzy drinks and crisps etc!
