And she’s a Brit! Congratulations to Susie Wolff for making her debut, and in turn making history in the British GP F1, racing for Williams today. Susie was the first female for 22 years to take part in a grand prix weekend, a momentous occasion for the 32 year old! Sadly it ended in disappointment with her car failing her on only the second lap due to an engine problem.
Susie gave a brief account of her emotions after this morning’s proceedings:
"Really tough day but that's F1 sometimes. We had an oil-pressure problem, which cut the engine off, the guys are looking at it and hopefully they can get it fixed for free practice two”.
It is yet to be seen how the introduction of female racers will be received by Formula 1, but it SHOULDN’T make any difference…If you’re fast enough, you earn the right, and gender shouldn’t matter!
