Off the back of an excellent winter Olympic games, new research produced by Scott et al (2014) analysed two climatic indicators based on historical points of view, and used them to make future predictions. The indicators included minimum temperatures of less than zero degrees Celsius and a snow depth of more than 30cm. According to the indicators and predictions only 10 of the 19 previous host locations of the Winter Olympics are expected to be suitable for the 2050 games, and just 6 for the 2080 games! Naturally this will impact heavily on where and when the Winter Olympic games can take place. There will be a lot of changes that’ll need to be made for future games including investigating technologies that can overcome the changes in climate we are destined to see.
