Genetic Profiling : The Personalisation Of Your Fitness Regime

Almost everything from nutrition to fitness is likely to be personalised in the not too distant future, and I don't mean asking you to eat a certain food because it appears to help, or to lift a certain weight because it appeared to produce a certain result...we're talking GENETICS & GENOMICS!

The last few years have seen significant developments in nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics, and now scientists have found links between blood, saliva and muscle samples that have enabled the characterisation of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). This is known as Genomics, the SNPs literally define us as individuals making our genetic code unique, and consequently this may influence the way we adapt to nutrition and exercise (known as ones phenotype).  So it seems scientists can now link genes and genetics with an individuals response to nutrition and the whole meaning of 'Personal training' may soon be taking a drastic change!
