OK, so we may not compete on the overall medal standings with the mighty athletic nation of the US, and China just have too many to choose from to not compete on the world stage, but aside from them…we’re right up there now! It seems all the years of investment into track and field, and of course all of the other disciplines that we always do well in such as rowing, cycling and so on, has finally paid off. And the European team reinforced the statement I made in the title by claiming a record medal haul of 12 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals. All-Athletics.com considered this Eurpoean Championships to be the best championships since the multi- day competitions began in 2001. This was in part because of the great hosting, but also for the many records that were broken including the British women’s 4x100m relay! Then we had the ‘Wonderful Wednesday’ which saw James Desaolu, Tiffany Porter and the one and only Mo Farah all add gold medals to the GB tally. All in all then, the plucky Brits are doing pretty darn well right now.
