When everything is going great, everything is great right? Pretty simple on this one that when you feel like your training is going really well and you're eating the right foods, progress and results will show which will make you feel on top of the world. What happens though when you aren't feeling like this and there will be times that you will. You might have had times when your workouts weren't as good as what they have been in the past or your diet isn't as clean as it normally is. What do you do when you feel like this? Do you give into the fact that this is how it is or do you do something else.....?
Push Through
When the going gets tough you have two options, sink or swim. We all know that the latter of the two is the one which requires the most effort and can sometimes destroy our will to carry on achieving what it is we want. Achieving your goal within a fitness sense is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. What I mean is you can't just workout and eat right, you have to be mentally prepared for what your journey holds.
Break The Barriers
In order to grow you have to break the mental barriers that are preventing you from succeeding. These barriers arise when you push yourself and are wanting to step up to the next level. When you want to increase your deadlift, squat, shoulder press and so on you have to step up and push yourself past what you think you can actually do. This usually requires heart and determination to push yourself through it all but when you do you'll be happy you pushed yourself through it.
Prep Mode
Each and every time you enter the gym or begin your workout, you should mentally prep yourself for what is ahead. Your workouts should be treated like business meetings where you treat this slot as your agenda to get things done! If you do this before any workout I guarantee you will smash any barriers that arise within or around your training sessions.
Grow
Don't be afraid to set yourself new goals to push you further than where you are right now. The growing process involves mentally pushing yourself past barriers that you wouldn't normally knock down. When you do this you grow a little stronger inside so that you can set new goals and smash other targets.
Even though it's Boxing Day you can still get a workout in if you want to push through those mental barriers. I know I will be in that gym reppin' out an awesome workout working off yesterday's lovely food. If you want it, go after it!
