Like the title states, is the gym the only thing you need to have in order to reach your health and fitness goals? How many of you rely on just going to the gym to achieve your goals? Did you know that you can perform lots of different exercises indoors and outdoors which will help work on your goal without even stepping foot inside a gym. It doesn't matter if your goal is to lose weight or gain weight, build muscle or increase fitness, whatever your goal is, it doesn't always have to be the gym which gets you there. Here is the low down on what I think...
Be More Dynamic
The gym is NOT the only place to exercise and feel good about yourself. I admit that the gym is convenient and it is always there for you when you need to get your workout in, but maybe it is time to be more dynamic. I am a big believer of keeping everything fresh and not sticking to one source of training. Some of you I know rely only on the gym, lifting weights and doing this consistently for months and months at a time. Do you get bored of this? Is it time for you to think outside of the box to keep your mind clear and focused on the goal ahead?
Think Outside The Box
The gym offers cardiovascular equipment, a weight room, machines, mat areas and in most cases a swimming pool. Do you find it hard to sometimes get to the gym or are you bored with your workout? Does this make you resent exercising and are you stuck in a place mentally where you can't get back into exercise? Sometimes you need to step outside of your everyday routine and have a look at how you can mix it up. You can put your body through any type of exercise but it is great for your mind to do something different so that you can come back to the gym recharged and refreshed.
Can't Make The Gym? What Now!!
Just because you can't make the gym it doesn't mean you can't get a workout in and feel great! Simply saying I can't make the gym today due to work, friend commitments or traffic do SOMETHING ELSE. The way I look how I do is because I don't give myself the excuse that I can't do something. If you can't make the gym why don't you exercise outside, go for a run or simply exercise in a park or your garden? In my opinion there is no such thing as an excuse not to exercise just because you can't make your local gym.
Still Stuck... Try This
So workouts out of the gym cost nothing, this is a free workout so make the most of it. Your run doesn't have to be a boring 5km run, spice it up with sprints, backwards running or squat jumps? Do you own a bicycle? Why not use it! Do you find running outdoors easy, do you own a rucksack? Why not add some weighted products into a rucksack and run with it? Still not convinced, well why not perform a bodyweight workout in between your cardio work? The limits are endless and don't get stuck into thinking you can't exercise just because you can't make the gym.
