Brand new research published in The New England Journal Of Medicine on February 2013 reinforces what we already know…that the Mediterranean’s get it right in 3 key areas, the 3 F’s… Football, Fashion and Food! Estruch, Ros, Salas-Salvado et al. (2013)’s recent piece of research is dubbed the ‘landmark’ study that provides compelling evidence that a Mediterranean style diet cuts heart disease risk by a massive 30%! The key here is that total energy intake is not restricted so long as the diet is plant based with lean meat sources, supplemented with olive oil and nuts.
The findings of this study were so impressive that the researchers were forced to stop it due to ethical reasons i.e. the control group who ate a normal diet were knowingly not getting any better by eating a non-Mediterranean diet, whilst those that were eating the Mediterranean way were getting noticeably better!
So Stop delayin’ and go Mediterranean!
Include Fruit, Veg, Wholegrains, Olive Oil (omega oil), Pulses, Fish, Oily Fish (Mackeral, Salmon, fresh Tuna, Sardines etc), Poultry, Eggs, Cheese and Yoghurt in your diet in order to achieve a Mediterranean style diet. So you’ve got the ‘Food’ of the 3 F’s sorted, as for the Football and Fashion… well that’s something for the footballing Gods and Gok Wan respectively.
