Sunday 8th October 2013, St Albans Arena, St Albans, Hertfordshire saw our very own Scott Riches take to the stage for his first Fitness Model competition…and he did himself and all of us here at Discount Supplements proud!
Miami Pro was founded and hosted by body transformation expert and fitness competitor Angie Weston, whose massive influence in the fitness modelling industry was raised by the shows master of ceremony Audrey Kaipio, aka the champion- maker. The day was set and the competitors were ready to go, starting with a parade around the stage in their swim wear. The mix of athletes included under and over 75kg fitness models, fitness models Over 40s and 50s, men muscle model, men body building and ladies fitness model and muscle model, and not forgetting the incredible ‘yummy mummy’ competitors that graced the stage!
The audience were sat ready and waiting for the actual show to commence, me (Tom) and Head of online Rick (it’s a family thing at Discount Supplements) were sat 4 rows from the front, central, and directly alongside the judging panel. The judges were well placed to pick a winner because it included Ryan John-Baptiste (Champion fitness model), Femi Billyrose (Champion fitness model), Lazo Freeman (Top fitness model), and Angie Weston (Miami Pro CEO/ Model).
Competitors take the stage
First out were the fitness models under 75kg immediately followed by the over 75kg fitness model category. After parading their assets in their swimwear the models were lined up and called out for a top 7 which would eventually be filtered down to make the final 5 after the theme wear round. Once the judges had deliberated, the muscle models and bodybuilders came out. The number of competitors in the muscle model and bodybuilding category was surprisingly low, but this didn’t detract from some very muscular, refined, and aesthetic physiques! Next we had the women, and what an incredible display of refinement, elegance, tone and definition, and not to mention some hugely impressive muscle MASS on display! Finally there was the over 40 and 50s category which really did epitomise the philosophy that fitness is a lifestyle and not a phase. Some of these older guys only discovered fitness and training in their late 40s, so their achievements are commendable!
So the call outs were announced and the final 7 competitors were called to the front…and this included our very own Scott Riches! His aesthetics and conditioning was up there with the best, including last years 3rd place in the Miami Pro World and European Championships Tim Chase. I think you’ll agree, not a lot of difference…
I was so enthused I just had to do a quick video, check it out below...
Tim Chase went on to win and Scott finished marginally outside the top 5, which is a great result for his first show! Some might agree that Scott warranted a top 5 finish at least, but it serves as a potent incentive for Scott to come back bigger and better at the next fitness modelling competition.
Check out Scott's views on the show, including interacting with the other competitors backstage, bikini models and his views of Miami Pro from a competitors perspective!
