OK, so the title is a little bit scorning and I don’t mean to assert absolute blame on a man who has been one of the greatest fighters we have ever seen...but it's hard not to. He was on a cocktail of medication for anxiety including Oxazepam and Temazepam, which can also be used to remedy sleep deprivation. Silva submitted to 3 NSAC tests for which he tested positive for drostanalone and androstane. It’s strange because he has never tested positive in the past, but since his leg break last year Silva may have felt he needed some extra help…or maybe it’s a genuine mistake. Either way, mistakes are very costly in the sporting sector, especially when it comes to failed drugs tests.
Silva faces a 9 month ban, but this could increase because he failed a 2nd drugs test shortly after. It is thought that in order to fail the 2nd test he would have had to have taken Androstane shortly before the fight against Nick Diaz at UFC 183. Funnily enough though (although this is decidedly NOT funny at all), Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites on fight night, but did test negative for all other banned substances.
Easiest thing…STAY OFF THE DRUGS FOR GOODNESS SAKE, oh and STOP CHEATING!
