Mountain Joe’s may have only launched in summer 2018, but they’ve already had a profound impact on the world of protein snacks! We’ve already spied some brands releasing copycat products (shh). True Rocky Road is a real indulgent treat, many of us might have been thinking that it is something of the past, a distant reminder of kids’ parties and school days! Not to fear. This high protein, low sugar alternative is here to save the day- and your macros.
In each chunky 55g bar you will find marshmallows, crispies, raisins and, of course, roasted peanut chunks, all enrobed in chocolate!

I feel like Mountain Joe’s have hit the nail on the head balancing serving size and calories here. The bar comes in at under 250 calories, making it realistic to fit around more nutrient dense core meals, while still being satiating enough to feel worthwhile.
Fat is, naturally, at the higher end of the bar scale due to the peanuts, which I feel is absolutely justified for what they bring to the bar compared to artificially peanut butter flavoured bars which are never quite right! Carbs are pretty low all things considered and just under 5g sugar isn’t at all bad with the amount of chewy dried fruit chunks they’ve packed in.
Nutrition aside for a moment, I thoroughly enjoyed this! I’m a huge fan of sweet and salty combos, which this bar does perfectly. The different flavours and textures all hold their own and it was refreshing to have something so different to anything I would usually eat.
My only criticism is that my bar was a little hard, however, this may be down to the cold weather we’ve been experiencing!
