Too Many People Think The World Owes Them Something… Thoughts On Kanye West’s Most Recent Rant

And there is one person who tops this list… Kanye West! This is by no means a personal vendetta, but the guy seems to make it a personal goal of his to vocalise his dismay at things not going his way. I won’t reel off a list of his antics because it would take me all day, but his most recent rant at the Grammy’s did make me chuckle.

You DO NOT deserve to win a Grammy (or any other accolade for that matter) because you have the name Kanye, or because you’re buddies with Jay Z, or even because your partner is Kim Kardashian and your child is called North. He seems to think that his opinion is all that matters, and this was substantiated when he ranted over Beck winning album of the year. Kanye asserted that Beck should give his award to Beyonce Knowles…granted I’ve never heard of Beck, but that’s beside the point, millions of other people have!

What bugs me about this is that we seem to live in a world where society thinks they are owed something. The thing is, everything around us is one big favour…everything we use, do and capitalise on in life are favours that fellow human beings have made possible for us. Yes we all contribute to this, many of you reading this will have come up with something that we all make use of in this world. You may be a carpenter and constructed a beautiful, functional door for 10 Downing Street or 34 Browning Street, it doesn’t matter. Heck, you may be the inventor of a brand new revolutionary drug that cures a devastating chronic disease…fact is, the world and its inhabitants aren’t owed that drug, the fact that you took the time to research and deliver that drug is one big favour.

So when I hear people like Kanye West standing on his pedestal and ranting over what should or shouldn’t have happened, I think to myself (and this time I put my thoughts into a blog post…which by the way was a favour bestowed upon me by my IT team, cos I can’t make a blog page) why offer your opinion on a matter that is based entirely on the peoples opinion (if you think the Grammy’s are fixed then you’d disagree), why think that your stance on a matter is greater than that of the majority. In fact, why offer your opinion at all sir.

Perhaps one of the most refreshing tweets I’ve read in a while was that by Shirley Manson from the Rock band Garbage who said:

'It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry. You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work, and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK,' she wrote.

'You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt. In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own,'

'Grow up and stop throwing your toys around. You are making yourself look like a complete twat,'

'Ps. I am pretty certain Beyonce doesn't need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she's got everything covered perfectly well on her own,'

Well said Mrs Manson, well said. I acknowledge that bad publicity is deemed to be better than no publicity, so I begrudge giving his rant the airtime it's getting...but this is a man who needs to sit back and chill for a bit... why doesn't he try getting in the gym and lifting some weights, maybe that'll ease some frustration.
