Pimp My Shake #2: Add Some Cinnamon To Your Protein Shake

Following on from the previous ‘Pimp My Shake’ we decided to add in about a teaspoon of Cinnamon…why... well for several reasons actually!

First and foremost for its thermogenic properties, Cinnamon is known to boost the rate of your metabolism and in turn increasing the rate at which your body burns calories for energy (either in the form of carbs and/or fat).

On top of this, in a 2012 meta- analysis (review of several studies), Cinnamon was seen to potentially regulate glycaemic levels i.e. blood sugar levels. It is thought that Cinnamon may regulate HbA1c levels (an average blood sugar reading for the past 2-3 months). It is thought that insulin may enhance insulin receptivity and thus improve blood sugar levels (and potentially hypertrophy aka muscle growth) through this mechanism.
