‘Pimp my Shake’ #5 – Energising Edition

So most of the ‘Pimp my Shakes’ posted in the past have been breakfast targeted, meaning they are best consumed in the morning because they contain sustainable energy sources such as blitzed oats, blood sugar regulating cinnamon and of course, whey protein!

Ever find yourself flagging mid-afternoon, say after lunch for example? An hour or so after lunch is probably a good time to get an energising and anabolic pimped out shake down ya neck!

To do this, try adding the following to your Discount Supplements protein shaker:

  • 1-2 scoops whey protein
  • 2-3 squares of dark chocolate
  • 2 capsules of Ginseng
  • 1-2 shots of coffee

Get some whey protein (ideally chocolate flavour) as your base for a nice hit of amino acids to support muscle development, firstly mix this with water or milk before adding some dark chocolate. In order to mix the chocolate into the shake, melt 3 squares in some freshly made coffee and pour this in. The chocolate promotes the release of the feel good hormone phenylethylamine (PEA), the same chemical your brain releases when you’re falling in love, aaawwww… and this causes the release of endorphins which will give you a little lift. More importantly, dark chocolate also contains the antioxidant and cardio protective phenol known as catechins, these look after your heart too! On top of this, 3 squares of dark chocolate also deliver approx 10-15mg of caffeine for that extra energy kick.

OK, so 10-15mg of caffeine is a fraction of what most would need to feel any benefit on energy levels, therefore the addition of coffee and ginseng is key to boosting the total caffeine content of the beverage helping to increase concentration and focus.

So when you’re in need of a little boost and want to maximise nutrition too, get a protein shake that gives you that little bit extra, get a ‘Pimp my Shake’ – Energising Edition protein shake in your life!

Stay tuned for more ‘Pimp my Shakes’ next week!!
