How many of you use a pre workout supplement? How many of you know what one is? Here is your guide on whether you should be using one or not.
So lets start with the basics and look into what a Pre Workout supplement is. A Pre Workout supplement is a concentrated blend of ingredients that are going to increase energy, strength, pump and focus. These are four components to your workout that I think are a must. If you don't feel energised, strong, pumped and focused for the gym then you aren't going to have a good workout. This is the number one reason to use a pre workout supplement, I know how much your workouts mean to you and I also know how much your fitness goals mean to you. This is a must!!
So what makes the concentrated blend so great to give you these effects? Well some pre workouts are going to differ slightly from others, this is what makes them slightly more marketable. There is no doubt however, that most if not all will contain certain staple ingredients that are going to give you the edge over someone who doesn't use one. Of course some of you at this stage will be thinking I am just trying to sell you a supplement, heck I work for Discount Supplements, the largest Multi Brand company in the UK. Let me re assure you this isn't what I am trying to do, I am not a sales person and all I want to do is to give you extra tips so that you can achieve your fitness goals. I know how hard it is to achieve your goals and I know how hard it can be when looking to improve your workouts. Also, lets face it, the supplement world is so vast and extensive with so many different products out there, how do you know if you are taking the right one? This is another reason why I am writing this so that you feel assured you are making the right decision in taking a pre workout supplement.
Ok, so lets get down to what makes up the pre workout supplements and why these ingredients give you extra energy, strength, pump and focus. Two main ingredients that will make up the pre workout blend are L-Arginine and Beta Alanine. Just typing these two words make me feel pumped because they are great to use before a workout!! Why? Well, L-Arginine is an amino acid that uses nitric oxide to promote vascularity within the body. When you become more vascular your blood vessels dilate so that more blood can be carried through to the working muscles. This is great because more blood means more oxygen to the area which will result in a better pump. Now you can see where the pump comes into the equation. We all want our muscles to be full and pumped so that we can lift, run, row, swim, cycle faster and better. L-Arginine is a great ingredient. The second ingredient I touched on was Beta Alanine. Another important ingredient that will take your workouts to the next level. What is it? Well in essence this is a pH buffer for your blood. Beta Alanine will help buffer lactic acid and put your body in a more Alkaline state. This will help with endurance and energy. When you exercise your body produces more hydrogen ions that make you more acidic, causing you to fatigue quicker and give you less energy. Beta Alanine does the opposite and will push you to new limits, exciting stuff hey?!
Some products will contain extra ingredients like Creatine and caffeine. Creatine will also help with endurance and energy. Creatine has also been linked to improve your strength and give you extra power. Caffeine is a stimulant that will help improve your focus and make you more alert. Caffeine has some good qualities for instance it will produce more adrenaline within your body and this can help push you further. You may also find products will contain Taurine which is also linked to an extra surge in energy when needed with exercising.
All sounds good right? I think so. In my professional opinion I think a Pre Workout Supplement should be used when you are feeling tired and not on form. Use it when you are going to put yourself through a tough session and you need something to give you the extra help. Pre workouts aren't a magic supplement, they aren't going to give you the results you need. You still need to workout hard and eat a balanced diet. But a Pre Workout could take you to the next level and give you the extra energy, pump, strength and focus you could be lacking. Have fun and keep up the great work!
