Now this might sound a tad strange at first but run with it as I am sure this will connect with some of you. What I'm about to tell you is something I do almost sub consciously nowadays because of how much I value living a healthy and fulfilled lifestyle. Making choices in life for things you want is hard and for many of us we have to sacrifice some things to make way for others. For instance there is something called the bodybuilding mindset which is in many of us, we just don't realise how much it controls our decisions. Let me elaborate on this...
What exactly is the bodybuilding mindset and do you have it? Do you sometimes find yourself working out what you can afford in terms of how much protein it will get you if you were to not buy a certain item? Seriously, do you find yourself looking at something and reasoning with yourself by working it out in terms of protein? Do you want to buy a new dress, suit, PS4 game and so on? These items may cost anywhere from £40 - £200 and somewhere along the journey of looking and purchasing the items, your bodybuilding mindset will kick in. This means you are no longer looking at these items as payment through classic English Sterling, but instead as protein or meals. If I spend £50 on a new designer t shirt that's 10 meals I could eat or worse still, a tub of protein from Discount Supplements (and some change).
Do You Do This?
First of all there is nothing wrong at all with doing this and all that it really points out is that you want to put your body first. I labelled it a 'Bodybuilding mindset' however it can be used for any athlete on your journey to success and achieving a new you. Leading a healthy lifestyle for the most part is about making certain sacrifices for things so that what you think is impossible becomes possible. Losing weight, gaining muscle, running faster and learning to swim are some goals you may wish to achieve but you have to stay focused and accept that it is going to be hard. Now, people might not necessarily know the sacrifices you have to make for different things, but they will see the changes you have made with your physique. When this happens and believe me it will happen, the times you decided to choose food over a materialistic property will bring you a big smile along with a sense of fulfillment. There is no better feeling in this world than setting out a goal and achieving it especially if it has been tough and requires you to really push through.
Protein is essential for everyone who wants to lead a healthy lifestyle as the macronutrient is a repair agent for your muscles. So when we say we would rather spend money on protein or a healthy nutritious meal, it isn't because we are obsessed. It's because we want the best for our body and we know that by eating good quality food doesn't come cheap. Good nutrition means even better output when it comes to exercise, which ultimately leads to achieving your goals! Don't worry if you have this mindset.... you are among many :)
