The Rare Eating Disorder That Forces 3 Year Old Boy Into Eating Nothing But Boiled Sweets!

Surely no such condition exists does it? Well poor Finley Ranson, a happy 3 year old boy from Battlesbridge, Essex, just down the road from us here in Braintree has to deal with this terribly debilitating condition every day of his young life. Finley has a severe allergy to food causing his body to react to food in the same way it would a virus. The result is internal bleeding which would ultimately lead to death. Despite having undergone a series of tests from Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, Finley’s extremely rare case of eosinophilic enterocolitis has resulted in him having to consume nothing more than boiled sweets. In an attempt to make these sweets more appetising his mother has taken to melting down the sweets into ice lollies so that he can eat them in another form.

Finley is fed via a feeding tube 6 times a day, this is delivering all of the nutrition he needs. In the mean time, at least until somebody can come up with a reason as to why he is having such aggressive reactions to food, Finley will have little more than glacier mints and ice to chew on. Despite all this, his mother explains how brave Finley still manages to smile and laugh every day…an example to us all out there.
