Founded in 1992, it’s fair to say that Science in Sport were one of the pioneers in the supplement and nutrition industry, particularly in the energy and endurance sector. Their products have continued to develop with the times and are used by the recreational and elite athlete alike. Without doubt their most successful and famous athlete is Sir Chris Hoy, a chap that I had the absolute pleasure of listening to at the recent International Sport and Exercise Nutrition Conference (ISENC) in Newcastle. He is an MBE, and remains an avid user of the SiS product range using them to fuel his 6 Olympic Gold medals, and now for his racing driver career in which he races in the Radical SR3 Challenge and Radical European Masters in Radical's SR3 RS and SR8 RX open sportscars.
Specialised, and yet highly versatile brand
During his question and answer session at ISENC, 2014, Sir Chris Hoy explained how he used SiS to energise him before and during the race, and to re-energise and replenish muscle protein after exercise. SiS have two core product ranges, SiS GO comprising their energy powders, isotonic gels, energy bars and hydration tablets. Their other range is SiS REGO which includes protein based recovery powders and bars. The versatility of the brand is substantiated by Sir Chris Hoy’s recent endeavours. He explained how motor sport causes him to sweat more than cycling ever did, the hot car, the racing suit and the helmet contributed to him losing a lot of fluid per race, as well as significantly sapping his glycogen stores!
SiS are the main sports nutrition supplier to the likes of leading cycling teams such as Rapha Condor JLT, Team Katusha, Pro Team Astana, Trek Factory Cycling and Madison Genesis. As well as this, SiS supply the Great British Rowing Team, two time ITU World Triathlon Champion Helen Jenkins… oh, and of course Sir Chris Hoy!
