I challenge you to take a cold shower after exercise.... Did you know by taking a cold shower after exercise, it could help relieve stress and tension on the body. You may see athletes like Mo Farrah and Usain Bolt do this and wonder why? Well here are the reasons;
1 - It helps relieve pain on damaged tissue.
2 - When the body becomes cold it will constrict the blood vessels and improve circulation which also means you can recover faster.
3 - It prevents swelling and bruising. When you apply an ice pack to an area it helps reduce inflammation to that area. This is the same principle with a cold shower. The cold water will help prevent swelling in the muscles, lowering the chance of damage to the muscles and help with recovery.
4 - Lowering your body temperature will also help lower your heart rate. This is great so your body can return to its resting heart rate quicker.
5 - The cold water helps numb your nerve endings which will help further reduce muscle pain.
So, in essence, if you want to reduce muscle soreness and recover faster, I challenge you to take a cold shower!!
