Dulse is a type of seaweed that is getting all kinds of press coverage today, and for all the right reasons too! Chlorella and Spirulina are other forms of algae/seaweeds that are popular in the nutrition, supplement and health world for its nutritional density. However, most people consume these varieties of seaweed in powder or capsule form because, frankly, they don’t taste the best! Dulse however, tastes like a household favourite…BACON!
Not only does it taste like bacon, but it’s quickly becoming the newest superfood craze. Reason being that this seaweed (like most seaweeds) is packed full of antioxidants, which when consumed alongside a healthy balanced diet and exercise regime, can reduce the risk of oxidative degenerative conditions such as heart disease and some Cancers.
It’s not a new substance, but the nutritional benefits of Dulse have been cleverly manipulated, and only really been popularised more recently thanks to work at Oregon State University. When eaten raw it seems that it’s not much kop on the taste front, but Professor Langdon (not the fella from The Davinci Code), a researcher from OSU, insists that when fried, this little bundle of nutritional goodness tastes remarkably like bacon, as well as containing twice the nutritional value of kale.
So why not give it a try!?
