Say what you will about Russia and some of their practices, but ones hat has to be removed for what was an enjoyable Winter Olympics for 2014. There were some unforgettable moments including some of the comedic genius of some figure skaters, there were memorable performances and personal achievements by the likes of Lizzy Arnold and Jenny Jones bringing some medals home to the UK. One of my personal highlights…SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH lending his unmistakeable tones to the commentary for the curling stating “the aim of this ritual is to land your walnut in the centre of the nest.” Classic…as well as being a novel touch to a strangely captivating sport!
Congratulations to the UK team who managed to finish 19th, a placement that is as good as we have managed since 1924 at Chamonix, France, after their 1 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze. This puts us in a positive position for the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea (Pyponchang) who boast a £7bn budget. South Korea will be only the second Asian country to host the Winter Olympics since Japan, so lets see what our medal target will be for then!
Well done Team GB!
