Spaghizza… Well, Why The Heck Not?

As a Dietitian and Sports Nutritionist I spend my life encouraging people to eat and drink well whilst performing regular bouts of physical activity. However, any self respecting Dietitian will know that the key to a healthy lifestyle is allowing some indulgences from time to time. Yes there are some die hard’s out there who will turn their nose up to an occasional cheat meal claiming ‘it doesn’t have to happen’…and to be fair they’d be right, you can (and many do) get by on a diet consisting of nothing but whole, unprocessed, well balanced foods…but the fact remains you really don’t have to maintain health and wellbeing.

A cheat meal has even been seen to favourably shift hormonal patterns resulting in improved fat burning and growth, but this is provided it remains a treat and NOT an every day occurrence!

For me, top of the list of cheat meals is a pizza and spaghetti hybrid...Spaghizza! Why, well, why not! I like pizza and I like spaghetti so I’m going to give it a whirl. The base is comprised of el dente spaghetti and is topped with the spaghetti sauce. Is it nutritionally balanced, not really, is it calorific yes, is it going to hinder you progress if you have this of a weekend cheat meal…Not at all! Give it a whirl!
