Strength Training For World Number 1 Golfer Rory McIlroy


It should come as no surprise to you that the world’s best athletes HAVE to adhere to a strict, well planned training regime in order to compete with the best of the best. Golf may not be a heavy contact sport or require bursts of speed for example, but what is does need is power, incredible core strength and endurance, as well as a lot of overall body strength to propel a ball 500+ yards or more!

World number 1 McIlroy is all too aware of this, and as featured in Muscle and Fitness recently, trains accordingly. Photos from the recent edition of the mag shows Rory with what appears to be around 140kg+ on his back, and a solid 140kg+ deadlift. He then appeared to be performing some plyometric moves consisting of sprinting and resisted sprints, which all serve to develop his power.

It may only be golf, but you better believe the strength and conditioning component of it is like any other sport!
