Fiona Oakes, 44, was told that she would have to pay the £6,400 rebooking fee to get home to Essex after a snow blizzard meant she was trapped in the Antarctica…but to make matters worse Mrs Oakes was out there fundraising in the first place! She had taken part in a 25 mile race in the -20 blizzards, and even managed to set a world record! So despite all this, the charitable nature of the visit, and having already paid £5,700 for return flights from Chile, Air France said ‘whateevvvaaaaarrrr’, and proceeded to demand £6,400 for the return flights regardless!
Mrs Oakes runs an animal sanctuary where she looks after approx 400 horses, dogs and cats. The amount she had to pay to return back to the UK was double the sponsor money she had raised for her Essex sanctuary…THAT, is a shame indeed. Maybe some discretion wouldn't have gone amiss here Air France, when on earth will common sense and good will prevail in these instances!?
