Well look no further with this thunder crushing, explosive workout regime! With Thor 2 being released into the cinema this week it only seems fitting to share what I think Chris Hemsworth would have to do to become Thor!
Thor is towering, muscular and not afraid to use his hammer in battle. Now, it is likely you won't carry a hammer around with you on a day to day basis (and if you do, maybe don't admit this to your friends.) It also doesn't matter if you aren't of a towering height either because I am sure that most of you reading this want to achieve a similar MUSCULAR physique that this Norse God possesses.
Eating Like A Warrior
In order to achieve a muscular physique you will need to EAT LIKE A WARRIOR. What does this mean? Well, you have to put the crisps, biscuits and choccy treats away and replace them with foods like steak, chicken, fish and eggs. Your nutrition will play an important role in developing a strong, muscular body. Be sure to get a good amount of carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables with every meal so that you are giving your body all the nutrients to grow and get stronger!
Compound Moves To GROW STRONG!
The best movements you can perform whilst in the gym are going to be compound movements which exercise many muscles in the body. Thor is a god of strength and awesome power. In order to replicate this you need to perform the BIG moves that are going to work your body to its maximum. These exercises will work your muscles harder than before and increase your strength, muscle mass and muscle endurance. When you think of Thor you think strong and someone who has endless energy and power. To obtain similar qualities you need to put yourself through tough workouts so that you can grow and adapt.
The Exercises And WHY
I want you to perform 5 exercises which will work your body harder than before. These exercises are specifically designed to help structure your body so that you will grow and become stronger. These exercises will be harder work but what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, right ;)
DeadLift - This is hands down one of the biggest exercies you can perform during the workout. A single deadlift will work literally every muscle in your back and work many more in the body. Not only is this exercise aimed at developing a thick lower back, it will also help improve grip, strength and optimal power. This exercise is A MUST!
Squat - A close friend to the deadlift within the compound family, squatting. You know it was going to be in the workout so I thought it was best to mention it early on. Don't be scared of training your legs however, as squatting will give you size and strength that your superhero Thor possesses. Squats are amazing for working your muscles and they are also a brilliant exercise for helping internally with your digestive systems.
Overhead Press - Work those shoulders!! Build, absolute brute upper body strength by lifting objects over your head, (dumbbells are probably a more preferred option ;).)
Pull Ups - Oh yes, working your width and pulling your frame up to a bar is considered as a good test of strength. So how many PULL UPS can you do? Start by doing these with your body weight and then add additional weight to your belt. Perform narrow, wide or underhand pull ups to work different muscles in your back.
Bench Press - You were getting worried, of course, to be as strong as Thor you need to have defining pecs that will scare any enemy. Bench press is a big favourite within the compound moves and will work your chest and tricep muscles. Not only is this a great exercise to perform but it is also a great ego boost ;)
Perform each exercise 3/4 times with 5-8 reps and you are ready to go. They don't call him the god of thunder for fun so be prepared to feel electrified during your workout. Go heavy, use good form and technique and have a blast! Go and train like Thor!!
