Veganuary Favorites

Veganism: it saves the lives of animals, is better for the environment and often encourages healthier food choices. Veganuary is a pledge to follow the lifestyle for a month, in the hopes encouraging long term adherence. The movement started 5 years ago, and has grown in numbers every year since. Veganism isn't for everyone, and some people will simply not be suited to the diet no matter how much they want to. What we would encourage instead, is making small changes such as: swap cow milk for unsweetened almond milk or participate in 'meat free monday', if you have kids it can be fun to get them involved in finding and preparing meat free dishes for the family.

Whether you are currently vegan or are transitioning, here are some of our favorite products:

Efectiv Nutrition Vegan Protein

What's this? A new product! Efectiv Nutrition Vegan Protein is available in 3 tasty flavours: vanilla, chocolate and chocolate mint. It is free from sugar and gluten and does not use soy, unlike most vegan powders. The protein in this product comes from a blend of healthy pea and hemp, with no added nasties. Digestive enzymes are added, which along with the zero lactose content, makes this a great choice for anyone who suffers from bloating or discomfort after consuming a whey protein. Add this to oats, smoothies or healthy bakes to add a massive 24g of cruelty free protein per 30g serving!

If you would prefer a meal replacement, check out Brother Nature Superfood. With added greens and more calories per serving, you can avoid having to prep meals during busy periods and when out and about.

Grenade Carb Killa Go Nuts

Another new product here, and we can only assume you've been living under a rock if you haven't seen the hype on social media. These peanut based bars contain just 2g sugar each, contain slightly less calories than a regular carb killa (179kcal) and pack flavour and texture. Each bar might only contain 10g protein, but you could always use it to top your favorite dairy free yogurt if you wanted an extra boost. With lots of healthy fats and fibre, these will keep you full between meals when a sweet craving kicks in.

Extreme Nutrition Glutamine Complex

Glutamine is an incredibly underrated supplement that can assist recovery, immune function and gut integrity. It is also more likely for vegans to require supplementation as hitting a full spectrum of amino acids from diet alone is trickier.

It can be easy to be caught out by capsules that use a gelatin casing, so always check! These are totally suitable for our vegan friends.

PhD Nutrition L-Carnitine

L-carnitine helps to transport fat, particularly long-chain fatty acids, into the mitochondria of cells, associating it will increased fat loss. It is a non-stimulant fat burner so will not give the jittery side effects of other fat burners. Combine with a calorie controlled diet and increased activity to boost the success of your January diet!

Creating your own a vegan friendly stack is surprisingly easy! Most creatine powders are vegan, we have a whole host of bars (check out Battle Oats cookies and Tom Oliver bars) and there are plenty of meat alternatives that can help you meet your protein goals. Tofu, lentils, nuts and seeds are all great sources.
