Why Does This Vegetable Make Your Pee Smell??

FACT-OF-THE-DAY-logo

Eating asparagus has amazing benefits to your health and is one of the most expensive vegetables out there, some even say it may be an aphrodisiac. It contains a good range of vitamins inside each stalk but it's well known for it's unusual side effect when you go to the toilet. Did you know the reason why your pee smells after eating this is due to the fact it contains asparaguisic acid. When this acid is digested, it produces compounds including methanethiol, dimethyl sulphide, and dimethyl sulfone. These compound chemicals can be found in a skunk's spray which as you might know, isn't the most pleasant of smells.

So, don't let that bad smell put you off eating your asparagus as it's a vegetable which is very good for you.
