How many people do you know that start something like a weight loss plan and end up STOPPING altogether? Maybe you did it once? I know that I’ve certainly had bumps in the road when losing weight and sometimes it was because I didn’t really know WHY I was doing it in the first place!
In this BLOG post we’re going to be talking about connecting with our goal to help PULL us towards it, rather than just going through the motions because ‘that’s the plan’.
Why Are You Wanting to Lose Weight?
So, you’re starting a weight loss plan? Why? Have you had enough with being overweight? Are you wanting to see how far you can take your fitness efforts and how good you can look? Wanting to compete in a physique show?
There are MANY reasons why we could want to lose weight and they’re all individual to ourselves and our own personal journey. So first, we need to get really clear why we want to do this in the first place….if we don’t really know why we’re doing it, it can be easy to just throw in the towel as how can it be important if we don’t even know the ‘why'?
What Are The Benefits
If you can’t think of many reasons, maybe the following will help…
The benefits to losing weight for some people can vary, it can depend on where we start from, our life experiences as well as many other variables…the point here isn’t to line out ‘every reason’, it’s just to provoke thought to find our personal ‘why’.
Maybe if you’re overweight then perhaps some of the following could apply; health reasons, more energy, fit better into clothes, confidence?
If your weight isn’t a concern but you’re wanting to get really lean, then perhaps some benefits that may appeal to you could be; finally figuring out what it takes to be lean, have more of an athletic physique, push yourself and rise to the challenge you’ve thought about for a while.
Oh and by the way….these benefits aren’t just limited to yourself. If you are a better version of yourself (feel better, healthier, more confident) then you’ll be able to give MORE to your family and friends too…a very common motivator…maybe that could be something worth thinking about?
How GOOD Will It Feel?
When doing cardio it can feel like a real drag/get pretty tough. To get through that, I find that thinking about how good it will feel to finish it (and not quit) will feel great!
Doing the same here can help, sure it may be on a longer time frame but reminding yourself why you started throughout your weight loss program can assist to re-focus our efforts as opposed to getting lost in the journey and losing motivation.
Losing weight is a HUGE mental game, so these kinds of things can make the difference between staying the course and stopping altogether.
Having a plan to lose weight (what you’ll be eating and the exercise plan) is all well and good but if you don’t feel like sticking to it or you lose motivation…no matter what plan you have at your disposal, if you don’t DO it, it won’t be of any use.
This is why connecting with your goal can make the difference.
Try putting reminders around the house, images of bodies that inspire you, changing your computer/phone wallpapers to a cool quote that helps or whatever it is…for you!
