So it looks like there is a wave of support for a fitness campaign that sets out to make Britain a more fit and healthy place, it’s appropriately called National Fitness Day and it has taken social media by storm!
UK Active are a not-for-profit organisation whose only goal is to get ‘more people, more active, more often’…a simple goal really, at least it is in theory. As we know, the application of something like this is far harder than it looks! However with the hashtag #NationalFitnessDay trending on our twitter, and members of the public sharing pictures of themselves, friends, families and loved ones all over…we are definitely witnessing the fitness Britain! We are finally starting to see things that are actually good for us, and relevant to us get some social exposure.
Our kind of national day!
We at Discount Supplements get a little perplexed by these National Hairbrush days, or the National Dress-up Your Pet Days, what are these all about!? Conversely, days that recognise the dire straits we are in with chronic illness related obesity, diabetes and heart disease, and the lack of physical activity in general, are days we can get right behind!
A massive success!
ukactive mark the day by sending an information pack to its members to help them prepare and engage with the day at a local level. This will be followed up with a free ukactive National Fitness Day promotional tool-kit for all operators taking part. It is hoped that the members can get out and about and capitalise on the massive success of last year’s event that saw nearly 2,000 venues opened their doors to run free 'Power-Half-Hour' exercise sessions to showcase what they are great at, reaching 27 million people.
So why all the fuss?
The National Fitness Day is inclusive, in other words it brings people who might ordinarily have been nervous about getting started with exercise into an environment with like-minded people. You may end up training alongside someone who has trained all their life, or a person that is trying their hand at exercise for the first time ever.
The mission for UK Active is to make the 9th September the single most active day of the year, and why not! After-all, if you’re new to training, the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, and days like #NationalFitnessDay may be the nudge we as a nation need.
