Work Off That Christmas Tummy And Get FIT!

I always find the Christmas period goes far too quickly as for many of us we enjoy time with family and friends who we perhaps do not get to see enough. Whilst caught up in this moment it is very easy to eat foods which you wouldn't normally have and drink more than usual. While I believe this is ok to do so, it is now time to put in the hard work and exercise the festive treats off those wonderful bodies of yours. Here are some great tips to help you get back into the swing of things, come on, I know you want to put that chocolate bar down really ;)

Getting Back Into It

Like I said above, I think the holiday period should be about letting go, enjoying time with loved ones and relaxing. For many of you reading this, we all work so hard and put in lots of effort why not reward yourself with having some time off. How do you get back into it though when you have been relaxing for a few days? My advice is this, the sooner you get back into your old habits with your exercise, nutrition and supplementation the better. So if you need to write out some workout plans, go food shopping or need some new supplements, do it today rather than tomorrow.

Write New Goals

In order for you to get back into your old ways you need to focus on a goal and work towards something. Your goal could be lose weight, gain muscle, get fit and so on. Regardless of what your goal is, your goal is important to keep you motivated and switched on. If you don't have a goal then it will be too easy for you to give up and lose track of what you want to achieve.

Make Smarter Food Choices

We are two days into the new year and what you put into your body really counts. Nutrition is so important and I am sure most of you who read these posts by now understand why,. In case, we have some new readers amongst us, basically the food you put into your body determines how you look, feel and how efficiently your body works. If you put in processed, sugary, salty foods then your body will not work properly and you will not reach your goals. When you next go to the supermarket, I want you to make better choices with the foods you pick. Opt for slower release carbohydrates, more proteins and include a good amount of fruits and vegetables. Don't forget to have fats within your diet like nuts and seeds as they help keep you full. Staying full will help eliminate any temptation for sugary foods.

I love eating healthy and leading a lifestyle where people can feel inspired to also do so. However I personally cannot get all my nutrients from food alone and supplements are great to help with this. Do not be fooled though, nutrition is key and supplements are exactly what they say they are, they are their to supplement your diet. With this said, I do think there are three staple supplements you should be having in your diet for the new year. These are also ones that I use and believe keeps me looking in great shape all year round.

The Three Supplements You Should Have

I cannot stress enough the importance of using a whey protein supplement. Whey protein is very effective after a workout and as a snack. It has a few different functions with it's main one being to restore muscle strength and promote muscle protein synthesis. Whether you are male or female, you need to make sure you consume enough protein to give your muscles the correct fuel for them to grow stronger. The more lean muscle mass you have the faster your metabolism will be and the less fat you are likely to store. Protein IS A MUST!

Branched Chain Amino Acids are another key supplement that I use daily. BCAAs for short are basically building blocks of protein used to help support lean muscle mass. If you workout regularly and often find you are stiff and sore then using amino acids along with your protein will help prevent this. Leucine and glutamine are often combined together in a bcaa formula and both of these help prevent catabolism (breakdown of muscle)

Finally, I recommend a good multivitamin which is going to help many different functions within your body. Vitamins and minerals have many functions which help build a strong immune system that will prevent you from illnesses. Minerals such as magnesium, iron and zinc along with many others are very important to your body. As you workout more you body weakens initially before it strengthens so it is important you give your body the right nutrients for it to adapt and grow stronger!
