24g CARBS per serving
Applied Nutrition Carb-X is a highly branched cyclic cluster dextrin (HBCD) carbohydrate powder for intra- and peri-workout fuelling where rapid carbohydrate delivery and gastric comfort both matter. Each 25g serving delivers 24g of HBCD at 95kcal with 0g protein, 0g fat and 0g sugar. The 1.2kg tub provides 48 servings.
Highly branched cyclic cluster dextrin is produced from waxy maize starch via enzymatic cyclisation, forming a ring-shaped polymer of 100,000-200,000 Da. This produces low osmolality - the primary advantage over dextrose and maltodextrin. Low osmolality means faster gastric emptying, delivering glucose without the bloating that high-osmolality carbohydrate sources cause during training. Blood glucose elevation is sustained rather than spiked, which is why HBCD has displaced maltodextrin in performance intra-workout formulas.
Carb-X addresses the most common failure of intra-workout carbohydrate use: gastric distress that forces athletes to reduce dose mid-session. Dextrose and maltodextrin at clinically relevant doses during exercise cause bloating in a significant proportion of athletes. HBCD at the same carbohydrate yield does not. The 0g sugar per serving also makes it compatible with athletes monitoring sugar intake during fuelled sessions.
Carb-X suits endurance athletes, powerlifters and team sport players needing 24g or more of carbohydrate per hour during training who have experienced gut issues with other sources. It provides no protein or electrolytes. Contains no common allergens.
Alternative: Efectiv Nutrition Carb Powder 500g (19g carbs at 76kcal per 20g serving, dextrose-fructose blend) delivers a 19g-per-scoop dextrose-fructose intra-training blend at a peer-tier price.
