Strength training benefits long-term health by increasing bone density and reducing the risk of osteoporosis. It allows you to perform day-to-day tasks, such as carrying shopping, opening doors, and lifting yourself out of bed.
Strength training also helps to increase your metabolism, it can help you control your weight, and prevents injury from high-impact sports such as endurance running.
What is strength training?
Often referred to as weight or resistance training, strength training is an exercise that strengthens muscles by forcing them to contract against an external force.
There are different types of strength training, such as body-weight training, which focuses on body-weight exercises to improve strength to resistance-band work, using bands as a resistance for the muscles to work against; and weight-machine exercises, allowing you to increase weight as you become stronger.
